Miss X is currently separated from her husband of, ermm 12 years i suppose. Mr A had shown some interest in Ms X for quite sometimes, nothing serious, just some sweet gestures on certain ocassions - when she is sick, when she needs to fix the newly bought furniture...yadda...yadda...
Ms. X likes, ok, that would be an understatement; she's crazy about him. Then his birthday came. Instead of just wishing him happy birthday in a matter-of-factly manner, she overanalyzed things until the wishing seemed to be potentially fatal.
Thousands of "what-ifs" and "maybes" appeared over our yahoo chat. What if he wants to kiss me? What if he doesn't want to kiss me? what if he actually seeing someone? what if he actually just being nice for the sake of being nice? what if all the things he did for me was actually nothing to him? Maybe he is just a nice person. Maybe he doesn't like me the way i like him.
Miss Y is a cheeful person most of the time of the year. Yes, she overspend ocassionally, she pampers her sisters sometimes, she gets dates, gets dumped, u know all the normal things. What people do not know is that sometimes she will come back from work and start whining & asking rhetorical questions; "My life is so pathetic! Don't u think my life is pathetic? Is your life pathetic too?". Which I would normally replied with "what makes u think that your life is pathetic? I don't think your life is. I don't have time to think if my life is." but that, my friend will not stop her from continuing feeling sorry for herself, at least till the next morning.
Miss C is a married lady who married early. She regretted marrying her unemployed husband since the early years of their union. Every ocassion of meeting her she would ramble about how horrible her life is & how stupid she was for marrying the man & how poor they are that at times she has to feed the baby with 'air sirap' instead of formula. But the next time I see her, she would be carrying yet another little baby in her arms. One after another. I don't see any sign of poverty as had been mentioned by her in every meeting we had.
Why do we just love to feel miserable even when there is no trace of misery in our lives? Do we actually make it a point to look for misery? Aren't we contented with life without suffering? We purposely look for suffering, if there's no suffering, there's no meaning to life. We can't settle with a life that is so normal. We want our life to be dramatic. the more the better. We want to play the victim - of infidelity (the man we are falling head over heels r seeing another woman), of fate (why could God give Gwen/Madonna/ Amy Winehouse a husband but not me), of abuse (my hubby doesn't work & always extort money from me) of racism (I got this short legs because my mum didn't marry a mat salleh, otherwise I will definitely look like Giselle Bundchen) & of circumstances (I have everything that money can buy but I want to be loved, I'll give anything for that). We just need to be miserable, that's why we overanalyze things. We overanalyze our relationships - past, present, future & immaginary ones. We overanalyze our body, our wrinkles, our cellulite, our hair, our age, our biological clock, even our pores. we overanalyze other people's stares, smiles, gestures, facial expressions, calls and even sms. We just need to find something. Something that will feed to our hunger of misery.
Are we that desperate to make our presence in this planet noticeable?
Are we craving for the attention of others?
Or is it just the fear of being insignificant in this life?
Maybe we should ALL start loking for a charity which we can contribute to, that, if we think to be the first Malaysian Female Angkasawan is a little too cliche.
Or maybe we just need to count our blessings....
